East Walker River California and Nevada
The East Walker river is a precious river in the Eastern Sierras and is considered one of California’s Blue Ribbon Rivers. People from all over the world fish it any given year. Grizzly Peak Fly Fishers will enjoy this outing to an incredible and challenging fishery.
We will spend Saturday fishing the California side and Sunday the Nevada side. Saturday morning we will meet at 9am, to do a river tour in California. The tour will consist of driving from the dam to state line. We will make several stops, to point out known fishable areas, and talk about fishing these areas. The tour will take less than one hour. Afterwards, we will spread out and fish. Sunday we will fish the Rosaschi Ranch in Nevada. Nevada fishing license is needed. We will meet for a quick tour at 8am at Sunday morning.
Saturday evening, after fishing, for those who would like to meet, we will be meeting at Rhinos in Bridgeport for dinner, drinks and fishing tales. Rhinos is located in the middle of Bridgeport, it can not be missed.
I will be camping alongside the river, just of the side of HWY 182. These campsites are primitive that have no tables, no running water, and no restrooms. Anyone is welcomed to camp with me. The average temperatures are 55 during the day and 22 at night, below freezing. As an alternative, there are motels in Bridgeport if anyone wants to stay there.
This trip is weather, road conditions, and river condition permitting. It may be canceled at any time, for any reason. Registrants will be notified of cancellation by email. Also, camping location and meeting points will be discussed the week of the trip. Keep in mind, the elevation is around 6,000 so hiking and fishing can be a little more challenge. There is no cell service on the river and no medical services in Bridgeport. Visit Ken’s Sporting Goods website for river and weather conditions. Also, visit Caltrans website for road conditions.Fish First will have a list of recommended flies and equipment. Nevada fishing day licenses can be bought online or at Ken's Sporting Goods in Bridgeport.
