Do not let the short cold days fool you. This is one of the best choices for winter trout fishing in California. Pack your cold-weather gear, your small midge patterns, and let's catch some fish. Fishing in winter is not nearly as bad as most anglers think. Plus, the biggest trout I have ever caught, have been on the coldest days. An added benefit, very few anglers on the water. Fish Saturday and Sunday. Depending on the weather, we will decide whether to camp or hotel. This trip is weather permitting and may be canceled.
Please note, that the Pit River is one of the hardest rivers to wade, in California. Extreme caution must be taken at all times. The good news, if you slow down and use your wadding staff consistently, safe wadding is doable.
