McCloud River - June 10-13 (Fri-Mon).  Early summer fishing.  Fishmaster Rich Miller.

Here is the Fishout Sheet and maps of the Conservancy, the river from the dam to Ah-Di-Nah, and the upper river loop.

We will stay at the Ah-Di-Nah Campground if we can.  If not, check the bulletin board near the pay station for further instructions.

We usually think of the McCloud river in the fall when the big browns run. However, the river fishes well all year, and the dam regulation keeps the flows quite uniform. Summer fishing pressure is usually much less than in the fall. Recently, the main problem has been muddy water in the main stem coming from the appropriately named Mud Creek, which starts high up on Mt. Shasta. Most years the creek runs clear, but occasionally, high summer snow melt washes down huge amounts of sediment.  Hopefully fishing this early in the season will give us clear water.

NOTE: The McCloud River outing is located far from medical services, in a remote canyon where wading is difficult and injuries are not uncommon. This outing is a trip that will test (and hopefully improve) your angling, but it is not recommended for beginners, those with limited wading skills, or people with health and fitness issues.

We will have a potluck dinner on Saturday night after sunset.

GPFF strongly encourages car pooling. Email me to coordinate rides, or, more generally, if you have questions.

Tight Lines!
