The Physics of Fly Casting
Presented by Bob Fabini
Our March 8, 2023 Club Meeting will feature a presentation by Bob Fabini on the Physics of Fly Casting. The presentation will begin with an introduction to the basic forms of energy that allow us to understand the mechanics of basic fly casts. After some simple demonstrations of these forms of energy, we will see how they apply to fly casting. We will look at how rod motion and tip path determine loop formation and loop control. We will discuss how power application can contribute to tight loops, open loops, or malformed loops. We will also touch on how the same principles apply to roll casts and casts commonly used in nymphing. Bob will be utilizing demonstrations of physics principals throughout the presentation.
This program will be presented as a hybrid meeting. You can attend in-person at the Kensington Community Center, or attend via Zoom. Details to be provided nearer the program date.
