Hello GPFFers,
This is a solicitation for workers for our first biannual conservation work day on April 7 10113 on Codornices Creek. There will be many choices of tasks, from light to heavy.  We could use lots of muscle for removing ivy, morning glory, and blackberry on the south side of the creek between 9th and 10th. This will help fish becuse the elms that formerly shaded that side died of Dutch Elm disease. We would like to plant native trees, but that really won't work if they will be immediately overrun by the ivy and morning glory.

This work will be hard, often working on steep banks and from the creek (waders or boots would be a big help). Access will be tricky.

There also will be lighter work on the north side of the creek and downstream in the newly restored reach from 6th to 8th. In addition, you may recall that our group did wonders (Susan Schwartz's term), but didn't quite finish the thinning just west of Sixth, so some could do that.

As usual, Friends of 5 Creeks will supply tools, gloves, water, and snacks. They recommend long pants and long sleeves, layers, and clothes that can get dirty. Waders or waterproof boots of any height would be a real plus -- there are things that can be done only from within the creekside, and our group would be one of the few that would have things like waders etc..

We usually work 10 AM - 12:30 PM, but can go longer or vary this any way you like.  Please indicate how many of you will be attending and whether you would like to work in the creek with waders or the thinning group.  This work will go on rain or shine so be advised.

This the same creek that a coho salmon was spotted earlier this winter.  Hopefully, our work will entice a pair to explore further.
